This follows on from the saga described in Ocean Marketing – The Bad. After Ocean Marketing had been fired by N-Control, the makers of the Avenger controller, it was revealed that Ocean Marketing still had control over all the website and related email accounts, Twitter names, etc. Ocean Marketing continued to respond to Avenger customers as if they were still involved. At the same time, Ocean Marketing made extortionist demands of N-Control to release the accounts. Fortunately, N-Control hired a new and reputable agency and have since been able to regain control over their digital property.
While it has ended well, it was very traumatic for N-Control and it’s customers in the interim. It’s easy to be a Monday Morning Quarterback but the obvious point is to make sure that a company keeps control of its digital assets, be they Twitter accounts, blogs or whatever.
